ABA ROLI is a non-profit program that implements legal reform
programs in over 60 countries around the world. ABA ROLI has nearly 700
professional staff working abroad and in its Washington, D.C. office.
ABA ROLI’s host country partners include judges, lawyers, bar
associations, law schools, court administrators, legislatures,
ministries of justice and a wide array of civil society organizations,
including human rights groups.
JOB SUMMARY
The
Gender Specialist will be in Egypt for approximately three or four
months, with the possibility to extend beyond that time. The Specialist
will be involved in meetings and presentations with key stakeholders to
provide technical inputs related to gender into training modules for
judges. This will include introducing a multi-disciplinary approach to
legal and judicial training, including coordinating the views of
non-legal experts (e.g. sociologists, forensic experts, victims’ rights
advocates).
RESPONSIBILITIES

Identify and address the essential goals and key features of a gender-sensitive approach to address training of judges;

Include issues of gender in training courses including modules that can be put in place for subsequent trainings;

Assist in the design and implementation of cross-disciplinary training of judges; and

Work with the Monitoring and Evaluation expert to ensure that issues
of gender are identified, documented, monitored and evaluated.
QUALIFICATIONS

Must have JD, degree in women’s studies, international development and/or other relevant degree;

Must have at least 7-10 years of relevant experience in international women’s issues;

Expertise in rule of law and/or SGBV;
-
Strong preference for experience working on gender issues in the Middle East and North Africa; and
-
Prior experience implementing US government technical assistance programs and training programs preferred.
