Save the Children recrute: Regional Education Adviser (Central and West Africa)

We seek to make immediate and lasting change for children through high impact interventions, including the fulfilment of their right to education. Save the Children has transitioned to a new international programme structure to improve effectiveness and efficiency. Since 2011, the management of all country and regional offices has progressively transferred from national Save the Children members, including Save the Children UK, to Save the Children International (SCI). About the role The Regional Adviser will play an integral part in supporting country education teams in West and Central Africa to design and deliver high-quality education programmes, on behalf of Save the Children UK that increase access to quality, inclusive education for children affected by conflict, disaster, poverty and discrimination. The post holder will additionally play a critical role in supporting the delivery of high-quality programmes with the potential to be scaled up by us and others, as well as raising new institutional funds. About you You will be a credible and authoritative voice in discussions about regional policy, situation analyses and response, and provides technical support in programme development, fundraising, quality assurance, advocacy, recruitment, capacity-building, knowledge management and networking for education in the region at a distance and through regular country visits. In order to fulfil this role you will need to meet the criteria below: Demonstrated experience in the design, implementation and management of education programmes in an international development context with successful high-value proposal development, budgeting, donor liaison and report writing Well-developed understanding of key issues in basic education and related issues in West and Central Africa Fluency in English and French; knowledge of Portuguese an asset Experience working in West and Central Africa, whether at regional level or in more than one country Understanding of and commitment to Save the Children UK's mission, values and child rights-based programming approaches Ability to travel at short notice, occasionally to remote and insecure locations, frequently and extensively (around 50% of time) In return you will play a key part in our contribution to the Education Global Initiative, Save the Children (UK) has set an ambitious 3-year agenda - Ambition 2015 - to directly reach 6 million children with quality basic education services, particularly young girls and children living in conflict-affected and fragile states.
